Decorating on a Budget

So there I was, staring at the bland dash package that Suzuki must have spent about 27 minutes on...could I live with this hole in my soul when the rest of the bike was so sweet? Not a chance. I quickly logged onto e-bay and joined into the bidding fray for some carbon fiber ego goodies. A week later I had the triple clamp cover and the speedometer halo in my paws. The speedo ring went right on, though I used epoxy as the supplied double-sided tape raised the cover up too high, giving that cheap pancake makeup effect when I wanted Hollywood plastic surgery. Much better.

That triple tree cover was another story. I think Suzuki makes a nicer cover than Lockhart as the factory part covers the outer area of the clamp around the fork tubes and the Lockhart takes the easy way out. Being a creative type, I started to rummage around the garage like a racoon inside a butcher shop, but nothing really caught my eye...this was going to take some work. I eventually found an old 8" disk drive that I pulled apart and found a couple of drive rings that would look perfecto on the SV. Well, they only I.D.'ed out to 40mm, so out came the dremel tool and 5 minutes and a beer later, I slipped them on and started smiling. Big improvement. Now I don't have to lust after those Aprilia or Bimota triple trees any longer.
