You may own a deffective SV 2003 to present fuel tank. I just found out while changing my air filter. I smelled the fuel but I thought it was just the old filter, it wasn't. Along the left inside of the frame the fuel leaked and it was about 2 weeks that the smell started until I checked. You need to lower the heat shield cover to check this part of the tank. The fuel leaks and it will get worse. I had to repair mine by emptying the tank and leaving the cap open for the fumes to evaporate while good old GB WELD did the rest. If your bike is still under warranty get a new tank and save the old one for a coin bank.
