40 cent bar-end mirrors

I never did like the mirrors on my '00 SV, but the bar end mirrors I was looking at were $40-$90 and I wasn't ready to fork over the cash not knowing how they'd look or whether they'd fit.

Here's how I made bar end mirrors for total investment of 40 cents. What you‚ll need is 1 foot of 1/2 PVC pipe, and a 2 washers that can slid onto the mirror bar. I got mine from Home Depot.

1. Remove the bar-end weights, disassemble them and get the rubber bushing. Drill the rubber bushing out with a 3/8 inch bit.

2. Remove the mirrors and get the locking nut off.

3. Cut the PVC so that when you slip it on the mirror bar, it will be about œ inch from the threads. A washer should fit over the mirror bar but be able to go into the handle bars, I had to grind my washers until they fit. Slip on the rubber bushing and then the locknut. Screw it on until it touches the bushing, but you don‚t want it to compress the bushing.

4. Shove the whole thing into the end of the handle bars, and turn clockwise until it tightens up. Adjust the mirrors and enjoy the new look of your bike (and no elbows in your view either)
