| Jacking the bike - Front or Rear |
| Date: Wednesday,
January 23, 2002 From: Friso Schlottau A tip from a newbie. I got my SV in April of '01, partially due to the convincing tales on this website. First time I wanted to chain work (and replace rear tire), I had some troubles getting the wheel off the ground in a safe fashion. Here is the trick: Get a set of the racheting tie-downs (450 lbs each), and attach them to something taller than the bike that will hold the partial weight of the bike. I usually attach them to the garage door opener at my house, but saw horses, trees, and many other things could probably be substituted. Works like a charm, costs $20, and you can use the tie-downs for other things. For raising the rear, you can either attach to swing-arms, of go underneat
the rear seat. For front, I carefully wrap the webbing directly around
the Anyhow, hope this helps - I have done fork and rear wheel work using this, and it works very well for me. Friso Schlottau
