I did a price list today of everything I've done and want to do to my SV. I realized that this has now become my hobby, so I might as well make a Build thread to show what I've done and to keep track of when I did it. I will post ALL the pictures I take of her here as a reference too.

The day I got her, 2/28/2010:

What it came with:
  • 3400 miles
  • custom FE
  • Clear Alternatives Smoked Integrated Taillight Assembly
  • Rumble Concepts Ghost Turn Signals

  • RAM handlebar mount for my camera
  • Avon Storm 2 AV56 rear tire
  • Integrated mirror turn signals
  • Stebel Nautilus horn
  • Givi topcase mount
  • E45NJ topcase

Got the Givi rack for the SV and the E45NJ topcase in today! This is definitely going to make commuting to school a heck of a lot easier.

And it fits everything! I'm using my rain gear (two piece + gloves + necker) as a base since the E45NJ doesn't have straps, and I can fit my laptop, all my textbooks, and my bookbag on top of it.

Installation was a PITA for me, but relatively easy overall. One of the connecting bolts on my grab bar was like playdoh and I stripped it immediately. Took a Dremel to the head, and the bolt came out easy after that. The two bolts on the passenger footpeg also took forever to loosen, but I eventually got them with the #8 hex wrench and a 1/2" socket wrench.

The SO hates it at the moment since she is very image conscious. We ride as a couple with two other couples on a ZX6R and ZX9R, and she doesn't like that I can't take the Givi racks off as quickly as I could SW-Motechs. She'll come around eventually when I get her the Givi backpad, a new seat, and we go on a super long trip with no discomfort ;D

Thanks to all those who recommended Givi, and here's another one for you!

I'm 6'0, 220, I've got BIG legs, and a large portion of my calf contacts the back of my leg on most sport motorcycles. I also intend to get Sargent seats soon, and they reportedly lower the seat height by as much as an inch. Therefore, something had to be done.

A lot of people take issue with the footpeg placement on every year of the SV. The SK3 is usually at the top of the gripe list because the S rearsets are different, and the bike is slightly taller in some respects than true Gen 1's and Gen 2's. However, the K3's are unique in that the S and the N models have different rearsets that displace the footpegs 1" horizontally and vertically. The only thing is that you have to replace the shift rod, the brake return spring, and the brake signal spring with N models as well. With the help of Ebay and Honda East of Toledo, I scored everything but the brake return spring for right at $80. I could probably do the Buell footpeg mod for cheaper, but I didn't want to displace my feet away from the bike any more than they already are. So let's get started.

So, to the dwindling number of K3 owners out there, the S to N or N to S conversion is simple and effective. If you want higher pegs on an N without racing rearsets, reverse the process. If you want lower pegs on an S without flipping at riser plate, do what I did. The change isn't otherwordly, but it is noticeable. My daily commute and long twisty days will definitely be a shade more comfortable now.

I'm about to head up to Home Depot and the local auto stores to see if I can find a suitable brake signal spring. It is only about a centimeter longer than the S spring, but I couldn't for the life of me find the part on any fiche. Let me know if anyone can find the part or has an exact measurement for an K3's brake signal spring.

Also, if anyone wants to overlap the before and after photo's it'd be greatly appreciated.

Other changes, just for the record:
  • New set of Avon Storm 2 Ultra's
  • Adjusted TPS
  • Installed another speed sensor magnet
  • Removed the Stebel and the DL650 handguards, and the wiring for the grips for the time being.
  • Installed Galfer stainless steel braided brake lines, front and rear, and Galfer Green Kevlar pads.

This last post is of all the pictures since the windscreen change. I'm mainly putting this up so I can link people to it as I'm trying to sell the bike. I may not include all the information as I did in the previous posts, but I'll be glad to tell you everything I've done.

No changes between the Givi screen pics and the wreck. This was taken a couple of hours before the wreck:
