First post and fairly new rider, so hello first off. And secondly, for the love of god, help me! Haha.

Anyways, I have a 2006 sv650s and well riding a few days ago the bike died on me as I was coming to a stop light. No sluggishness; no sputtering; just clean died. On the side of the road, I tried restarting but to no avail. When I held the ignition button the dash lights came up, but no headlights or fuel pump (I can hear the starter relay clicking away though). As soon as I let go of the ignition button, however, everything goes dark again.

I got it in the bed of my truck and brought it home where I proceeded to poke at things with a screwdriver (new rider). Yesterday, I called the previous owner and he said it sounded like just a loose wire, so I lifted the fuel tank and took out the air filter box so I could get a good look around. Again, I proceeded to poke wires again. After 30 mins or so of this, I got pissed and gave up. As I was fitting the air filter box back in place, I accidentally dropped my flashlight on the bike. It landed on a cluster of wires that sits right in front and slightly under the air filter. For whatever reason, I said what the hell and tried the key again (keep in mind that I was turning the key to on periodically throughout). Wouldn't you know it, the dash lit up, headlights came on, and the fuel pump starting whirring. As soon as I hit the ignition button though, I heard a subtle pop from the cluster of wires and the bike died again and it's doing the same thing as before now. I tried poking the wire cluster again, but nothing happened. I put the bike back together and went to bed angry.

I'm completely lost. I know an average amount of truck mechanics, but have no clue when it comes to motorcycles. I've literally read through hundreds of forums on here and can't find much of anything that would help my predicament, so please, please help me! I'd be happy to provide additional info, pictures, or whatever if you need it to figure this problem out.

You may have an issue with what's called the green connector. You can guess that the plastic is colored green. This connector resides in front of the airbox by the steering head of the frame. Pull out the airbox and you should be able to find it. That popping you heard may be arcing across the terminals in the connector. Search under green connector and you should find some pics of its location and what can happen.

There seems to be a run of 2nd gen bikes today that either won't start or are possessed and stop without warning.

Well, I spent a good amount of time digging through the wires looking for the green connector, but it looks as if the previous owner has already hardwired all 4 of them together. Tomorrow I'm going to to tear them all apart, and solder them all. Just a heat shrink and electrical tape at the moment. Hopefully that should fix it, but if not, would anything else have these sort of symptoms?

Ya, I eventually figured out the the green connector wire was damaged further back under the fuel tank and shorted out the system. It fried my battery. I just repaired the wire, swapped out the battery, and it's been running like a champ ever since.
Sorry for the extremely late update. I got excited when it started running again and completely forgot about this forum.
Hope this helps Snitchelgroovin. Good luck.
